French Toast with Fresh Fruit

1 La Brea Bakery French Baguette, cut into ¾-inch-thick slices | |
1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, cut into bits | |
8 eggs | |
1 cup milk | |
½ pint fresh blueberries | |
½ pint fresh raspberries | |
Butter for serving | |
Maple syrup for serving |
In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk and vanilla. Soak the bread slices in the mixture for 5-10 minutes. In a large heavy skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over moderate heat and cook 3-4 slices at a time. Cook for 3 minutes on each side, or until puffed and golden brown. Cook the remaining pieces of bread in the same manner.
Serve immediately with additional butter, maple syrup and fresh berries.
