If you didn’t already know, April is Grilled Cheese Month and here at La Brea Bakery, celebrations are in full swing. In honor of the deliciously cheesy month-long holiday, we’ve dedicated each Thursday in April to celebrate everyone’s favorite sandwich!
It should come as no surprise that for us, the bread is the game-changing ingredient in this beloved sandwich. As our DVP and Executive Chef, Henk Drakulich explained to , “while many consumers think the cheese should be the star of the show in their grilled cheese sandwich, the bread actually plays a huge role both in flavor, texture and composition of the sandwich. In fact, I would go as far as saying that the bread is more important than the cheese.”
With this in mind, Henk crafted three different grilled cheese recipes for you to celebrate with, each incorporating a different La Brea Bakery artisan bread. The handcrafted sandwiches, found exclusively on Thursday nights at the Café throughout April, include three mouthwatering options:
- The Classic: Blend of cheddar, Monterey jack and fontina on Country White
- Cowboy: Braised short rib, yellow cheddar, caramelized onions, garlic mustard spread on Country Wheat
- Santa Fe: Southwest style pork belly, avocado cilantro spread, Monterey jack cheese on corn crusted French bread
As our friends at described them, these “warm, carb-y, and melt-tastic treats,” offer a range of options for every type of grilled cheese enthusiast.
