Ingredients
2 slices La Brea Bakery Rye Loaf
3 teaspoons and 1 tablespoon butter divided
2 slices Swiss cheese
Salt
Fresh pepper
4 ounces freshly ground beef, formed into a patty (roughly the size and shape of a slice bread)
1 cup yellow onion cut in half and sliced thin
1 tablespoon water
Preparation
- In a small saute pan or skillet, melt 1 teaspoon butter over medium heat until foaming. Add both slices of bread and cook until golden brown and remove from the pan and place cooked side up on a plate. Add a slice of cheese to each piece of bread and let rest.
- Using the same pan, place over high heat and add 1 teaspoon butter. Season burger patty with salt and pepper and when butter is melted, add meat to pan and cook for 2-3 minutes. Flip over, reduce heat to medium and cook for another 3 minutes or to your desired temperature. Remove and set aside.
- Using the same pan over medium heat, add onions, 1 teaspoon butter and the water. Let cook while scraping bites of brown crust from the bottom of the pan. When soft, remove.
- To build the sandwich, first add the onions evenly to each slice of bread on top of the cheese. Add the cooked burger patty and close the sandwich. Add 1 tablespoon butter to the pan and when melted place the sandwich down and let it cook for 2-3 minutes until brown. Flip over and cook the other side the same way until golden brown and cheese is melted. Remove and serve warm.
